Abstinence First: Teen Birth Control Decisions B

According to the Center for Disease Control, each day 8,400 teens become sexually active, 2,795 teens get pregnant and 1,340 teens give birth. In addition, more than 3 million teens contract a sexually transmitted disease each year. These statistics are a reminder of how crucial it is that the word be spread about the possible negative consequences of unprotected sexual activity. This video, available in two versions, advocates abstinence as the best and safest choice for all teens, but also goes on to describe the birth control choices that are currently available, including barrier methods, natural, chemical and surgical methods. Information is provided on the method’s effectiveness, whether it prevents sexually transmitted infections, details on any important side effects teens should be aware of, how it works and how it can be obtained. Both versions of the program emphasize that both partners are responsible for all birth control decisions. Abstinence First: Teen Birth Control Decisions provides viewers with much-needed information on contraception and the importance of making an informed decision about sexual activity. Teacher’s Resource Book includes worksheets to further the information in the video. This version of the video does not make judgments regarding an individual’s decision to have or abstain from premarital sex.
