In this video, viewers meet Liz, a teenager who is afflicted with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) because her mother drank alcohol during her pregnancy. FAS represents a spectrum of physical and emotional disorders that occur because of alcohol poisoning before birth. Liz tells her story, supported by powerful graphics revealing how the developing fetus is damaged by alcohol. The signs and symptoms of FAS are described, including low birth weight, facial abnormalities, reduced coordination, poor social skills, learning difficulties and behavioral problems. Liz’s lifelong difficulties are a direct result of her mother’s alcohol use. This program delivers a strong “no alcohol use” message to pregnant women.

Recommended The devastating effects of fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) are the central point of this DVD. Several thousands of children born in the US every year are affected by their mothers’ use of alcohol during pregnancy. FAS can result in physiological deformities, inability to learn during early childhood, inability to control anger and a very limited ability to adapt to various job requirements in later life. The overriding impression gained from the interviews with those affected by FAS and medical experts is that this is an entirely preventable syndrome: pregnant mothers should refrain from imbibing in alcohol during pregnancy.
